Tank Hood plays mostly acoustic originals & American roots music. His originals are influenced by his deep appreciation of roots music, and he enjoys adding some modern/bent variations to standard folk structures (blues in 5/4? jazz bridge?? loopy ostinato solo???). His influences include Doc Watson, Woody Guthrie, the Carter Family, Robert Johnson, Hank Williams, Dave Alvin, Jerry Garcia, and Keith Jarrett, among many others.
In a past life (decade), Tank toured the country in a jamband that was signed with Jonny Z’s CraZed Management. He’s performed over 500 gigs, including a few in Japan, and was cast in a wedding band in the Garry Marshall film Runaway Bride starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. He’s performed and/or recorded with Tom Constanten, Buddy Cage, Martin Fierro, Scott Metzger, Chris Harford, Mike Gordon, and David Grisman, among many others. He’s opened for some touring stalwarts, including Steve Kimock, Mickey Hart, David Nelson, Merle Saunders, Warren Haynes, Jorma Kaukonen, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Blue Oyster Cult, and played on side stages inside the Camden E-Center for Furthur and Santana shows. He’s also played in a couple rootsy acoustic trios The Rocky Hillbillies and Cuzins. He is an experienced recording engineer and served as the principal engineer at Graphic Sound in Ringoes, NJ. He has a passion for high-quality sound, both live and in the studio. (www.tankhood.com)
