Murderous…Again - combines the dynamic spoken word of Lydia Lunch with the psycho-ambient jazz noir of Tim Dahl & Matt Nelson to create an intimate evening of provocative musical poetry.

When the Covid 19 quarantine placed New York City in a state of suspended animation, Lydia Lunch summoned bassist Tim Dahl who regularly performs live with Lydia’s band RETROVIRUS and saxophone virtuoso / sound manipulator Matt Nelson to collaborate on Murderous…Again a truly unique fusion of psycho-ambient jazz noir and hypnotic musical poetry.

Lydia Lunch has been touring in a variety of mediums since 1977. In 1982 she began performing and curating spoken word shows in NYC at The Pyramid, The Knitting Factory, The Kitchen, The Performing Garage, La Mama, The Roxy Hotel and numerous other venues. She has appeared live with John Giorno, Hubert Selby Jr, Karen Finley, Jerry Stahl, Wanda Coleman, Henry Rollins, and Last Poet Umar Bin Hassan to name a few, often arranging shows and booking tours throughout America, Europe and Australia. She has presented workshops for writers throughout the USA and Europe, where she continues to tour with both music and spoken word.

Her vast artistic archives were purchased by NYU’S Fales Library in 2020. She is the recipient of Fellowship in 2022 for her contribution to Contemporary Music from Middle Tennessee State University, one of the nation’s oldest and largest archives devoted to preserving and studying the full scope of American Popular Music.

Beth B’s documentary on Lydia’s 4 decade long career The War is Never Over was featured at over 50 film festivals in 2020 & 2021 and is now available through Kino Lorber Films.

Tim Dahl is a New York based bassist and vocalist best known for his work with the noise-rock bands Lydia Lunch Retrovirus and Child Abuse. He also writes and performs for the jazz ensembles Pulverize the Sound, and GRID.  Dahl has performed and/or recorded with many other notable musicians including Yusef Lateef, Lydia Lunch, Tyshawn Sorey, Rhys Chatham, Archie Shepp, Eugene Chadbourne, Tatsuya Yoshida, Mary Halvorson, Peter Evans, Charles Hayward, The Flying Luttenbachers, Jandek, Kool Keith, Von Lmo...

Saxophonist Matt Nelson regularly performs in a far-reaching, motley assortment of musical projects. Described as “one of the more unpredictable virtuosos in NewYork’s underground” by Pitchfork and “genre-bending” by Tiny Mix Tapes, his output often lies in the gray corners beyond categorization.

Upon graduation from the Oberlin Conservatory, Matt moved back to his native Bay Area and became an active member in the music community there, where he performed regularly with various experimental outfits including tUnE-yArDs with whom he recorded and toured extensively in support of their acclaimed album ‘ whokill”. Matt now resides in Brooklyn and continues to work with various experimental musicians.

Mal Devisa opens

Mal Devisa is the songwriting, liberation, and poetry project of multifarious artist Deja Carr. She approaches her sound from any and every direction. Masterfully a genre-hopper, her work spans everything from soulful rock to unabashed hip hop, lush experimental to folk, lo-fi to jazz. And if you’re wondering how that can all work together, the answer is just: Mal Devisa. Often accompanied by heavy bass, clever loops, and hard-hitting lyrics – her voice is probably what will pull you in wholly. Simply and seriously a talent, Mal Devisa’s catalog is an experience that I hope you take some time with.

Mal Devisa's dynamic catalog is very much the manifestation of her musical history: her grandfather, Bruno Carr, was a jazz drummer who worked with the likes of Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin; she went to jazz camps as a teenager; rapped in MalYMarco; and led funk band Who'da Funk It?. After 5 years of performing in Who'da Funk It?, Deja began learning bass and compiling the scraps of some of her old songs ~ developing Mal Devisa.

Deja’s talents also extend to reaches of spoken word and production, paralleled by aspirations to start both a youth foundation and Afrobeat orchestra. This boundless inspiration is a central facet of Mal Devisa’s work, whose sonically and narratively unrestrained passages teem with empathy and liberatory visions for a better world.

Deja started releasing music as Mal Devisa in 2014, breaking through with 2016’s Kiid – her first full-length LP. Along with her digital launch, you can now also hear a newly remastered version of Kiid.
